By the hour

Hourly Chauffeur Service (As Directed)

Keep the car and the chauffeur for as long as you need them. Change stops as the day unfolds, and pay by the hour on terms written into your quote.

  • Car stays with you
  • Change stops on the go
  • Hourly terms in writing

In short: Hourly chauffeur service means you book a car and a professional chauffeur for a block of time instead of a single ride. The car stays with you, waits while you are inside, and goes wherever you direct next. The hourly rate, any minimum and when the time starts and ends are written into your quote before you confirm.

Some days do not fit a single pickup and drop-off. A house-hunting Saturday with six showings in three towns, a parent's round of appointments, or a business day that bounces between Princeton and Manhattan are all easier with one car that never leaves. That is what drivers in this business call "as directed": the plan can change and the car follows.

Ways people use a private driver by the hour

House hunting

Relocating to the area? Spend a day between listings in Princeton, Pennington, Yardley and Newtown, with your notes and coffee in the back seat instead of on a passenger's lap.

College visits

Families touring schools can see Princeton University, The College of New Jersey in Ewing, Rider University in Lawrenceville and Rutgers in New Brunswick on one schedule.

Business days

Site visits, client lunches and a stop at the office, driven by one chauffeur. Companies often pair this with our corporate car service account.

Appointments and errands

A parent who no longer drives can be taken to non-emergency appointments, the pharmacy and lunch, with someone waiting outside each stop.

Shopping days

Quaker Bridge Mall on US-1, Palmer Square in Princeton, or a city run. Bags go in the trunk between stores.

Celebrations

Hourly is also how most nights out and winery tours are booked, because the evening rarely runs to a fixed clock.

How to plan an as-directed day

You do not need a perfect itinerary to book hourly service, but a rough outline helps us choose the right vehicle and quote the right amount of time.

  • List the stops you know about and roughly how long you expect at each.
  • Say whether anyone needs a child seat. Child seats are available on request, and we confirm them in your quote.
  • Mention parking-tight stops (Manhattan, Center City Philadelphia, Princeton's Nassau Street) so the chauffeur plans where to wait.
  • For long days, allow a short break for the chauffeur around mid-day; we will suggest a time that fits your plan.
  • Keep the confirmation text handy. It has the chauffeur's details and the number for any changes.

Two example days with a driver by the hour

A relocation Saturday

A family moving from out of state lands at Newark on Friday night and spends Saturday looking at homes. The chauffeur collects them at their hotel at 9 a.m., drives to a showing in Pennington, then two in Hopewell, breaks for lunch in Princeton, and finishes with an open house in Yardley across the Delaware. Nobody has to learn the roads or find parking at each listing, and the agent can ride along if there is room.

A working day in Manhattan

A consultant based in West Windsor has a breakfast meeting in Midtown, a client visit downtown and a late-afternoon session back near Grand Central. Princeton to Midtown is about 54 miles, usually around 70–90 minutes without heavy traffic, so the car leaves early, stays in the city all day and heads home once the last meeting ends. Between stops, the back seat doubles as a quiet place to take calls.

Both days are booked the same way: describe the outline, receive a quote with the hourly terms, confirm, and adjust as you go. An hourly limo for an evening out works exactly the same.

What the hourly chauffeur service includes

Every hourly booking comes with the same basics: a clean, climate-controlled vehicle, a professional chauffeur who stays with the car, help with bags and doors, and a single number to text when your plans change. Your written quote lists the hourly rate, the minimum, and any tolls, parking or gratuity before you confirm. Nothing is charged online.

The time you book is the time you control. The chauffeur will not hurry you between stops or suggest cutting the day short; if you finish early or want to keep going, just say so and we sort out the time by text.

Choosing a vehicle for the day

A luxury sedan is comfortable for one to three people on a day of errands. An SUV adds room for shopping bags, strollers or luggage. Families and small teams spending the day together often prefer an executive van, and a stretch limousine suits a celebration. Compare the classes on our fleet page.

Where hourly bookings start

Most as-directed days begin at a home or hotel in Mercer County or nearby: Lawrenceville, Princeton, Hamilton, Pennington and Hopewell and across the river in Yardley and Newtown. From there the day can go anywhere within reach, including sightseeing in New York and Philadelphia.

Send your plan through the booking form or call or text (609) 598-2992. We reply with a written quote, you confirm, and the car is yours for the time you booked.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hourly and point-to-point service?

Point-to-point is a single ride from one address to another, quoted as a set trip. Hourly, or as-directed, service books the car and chauffeur for a block of time. You can add stops, change the order or wait inside a building while the car stays with you, and you pay for the time on the terms in your quote.

Is there a minimum number of hours?

Hourly bookings usually carry a minimum, and it can differ by vehicle class and day of the week. Your written quote states the minimum, the hourly rate and when the clock starts and stops, so you know the full terms before you confirm. Short single errands are often better quoted as point-to-point rides.

Can I add stops during the booking?

Yes. That is the point of as-directed service. Tell your chauffeur where you want to go next, or text the change to our number. If a new stop takes you well outside the area or past the booked time, we confirm how it affects the quote before the car heads there.

Can the chauffeur wait while I am in an appointment or a showing?

Yes. On an hourly booking the chauffeur waits nearby, in a lot or a legal waiting spot, and comes back to the door when you text. In busy places such as Midtown Manhattan the car may circle the block instead of parking, so plan a minute or two for the pickup.

Can I book hourly service in New York City or Philadelphia?

Yes. Many hourly days start in Mercer County and spend most of their time in Manhattan or Center City Philadelphia. Your quote lists expected tolls and parking for the day. For a single ride into either city without stops, our long-distance car service page may be a better fit.

Can I extend the booking on the day?

Often, yes, as long as the vehicle and chauffeur are not committed to another booking. Ask as early as you can. We confirm the extension and the added time by text so there is a written record of the change.
